Strathdearn Community Hall opens
Strathdearn Community Hall opens in Tomatin, Inverness, on Saturday 18th September. This community based project forms part of the larger 21st Century Halls for Scotland project. The Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations runs this scheme, and is supported by a £7.8 million grant from the Millennium Commission. Strathdearn Community Hall is a new focal centre for community co-operation and will provide social and recreational facilities for local residents, encouraging a variety of new activities. Captain P. H. Mackintosh-Grant will cut a ceremonial ribbon, officially opening the Hall. A local pipe band and the Strathnairn Ceilidh Band will provide music for the day. Speaking about the project, Mike O’Connor, Director of the Millennium Commission said: “The Millennium Commission is taking lottery money back to the grass roots where it can help people breathe new life into their communities. Strathdearn Community Hall is an excellent example of our commitment to communities in action.” 21st Century Halls for Scotland is one of 186 projects on 3,000 sites around the UK.
