| Award description: |
In a vast china clay pit near St Austell, the Eden Project is a living lesson in man's dependence on the plant world and the need to preserve it for the future survival of our planet. Two giant conservatories house the Humid Tropic Biome and the Warm Temperate Biome - nurturing plants from the steamy rainforests and the warm temperate regions of the world. The Outdoor Landscape features plants that have changed the world and which could change our future. For the first time, scientific research of plants as whole populations has been made possible, demonstrating what is going on in the world in order to look forward to a sustainable future. A new Education Centre has been built supported by a £10m enhancement grant from the Commission. A ReDiscover grant is creating new displays in the Visitor Centre - The Arcade of Ideas will consist of a mix of interactives and displays in the style of an amusement arcade/fairground that will communicate stories of man's connection with science issues. A second ReDiscover grant will enable visitors to follow the ‘Round the World in Healthy Ways’ trail to food exhibits across the site exploring what you and others eat, what it does for you and how it affects your world. |
