| Project description: |
Traditionally one of the most important community resources in rural areas, village halls are a focal point for community and environmental activities. Many were built as memorials to those who fell in the two World Wars, to local people, or to celebrate a royal jubilee. By the turn of the century, many of these halls were in need of modernisation or rebuilding, and under this scheme funding was provided for 47 individual projects - either to establish new community halls or to enable existing halls to meet the requirements of the 21st century, ensuring that important historical connections were not lost to their communities. |
